Activities & Services

From the objectives of the WFNMB, the diagram below gives an indication of the activities which are included under the auspices of the WFNMB executive office:

One of our principal activities will be to support education efforts for nuclear physicians, physicists, technologists and other nuclear medicine scientists, especially from the developing world.
In achieving its programmatic goals, the WFNMB will work with its member societies, and with international health and scientific bodies like the International Atomic Energy Agency. This will enable us to enhance nuclear medicine education and improve access to the highest quality nuclear medicine care.

Education Programme

Coordinates an extensive Education Programme for developing countries, both on-site and on-line. The WFNMB works with member societies (e.g. SNM and EANM) to offer educational programmes, products and information to help individual nuclear physicians stay current and provide the best possible nuclear medicine practice to the public.

Primary Strategies:

  • Assume responsibility for management of some regional/national workshops to assure continuity and educational quality
  • Offer educational resources online
  • Work with the SNM, EANM and others to support distribution of relevant educational materials worldwide
  • Provide educational materials for developing countries (e.g., free copies of journals), either via the Internet, on CD and in other way
  • Encourage companies to support establishment of permanent QA labs for teaching
  • Form partnerships to develop educational resources that don’t duplicate what already exists
  • Guidelines: Disseminate established Guidelines for developing countries, taking into account practice differences between various countries, to enhance the appropriateness of practice, improve the quality of nuclear medicine, lead to better patient outcomes, improve cost-effectiveness and identify required areas of research
  • Website: In addition the website will be indicating the scope of our activities. One of our constant and major efforts with the website will be to stimulate and encourage communication among colleagues and their societies. It is our hope that this site will grow to be a major link for all nuclear medicine scientists.

Membership Services

Provides Membership Services and a point of contact between the National Societies, Associations, and Working Groups. Encourage operational research to be published in the WFNMB journal (WJNM) and Website.

Use strategic planning as a basis to help societies decide what they need to do to become more effective, and provide the support needed for them to take those next steps.

Primary Strategies:

  • Coordination and cooperation among societies
  • Communicate with and provide information to societies on a continuing basis
  • Avoid overlap, duplication and competition with national societies and others
  • Seek sponsorship for society delegates/leaders to attend workshops or other WFNMB meetings to see and learn how others do it

WFNMB Quadrennial Congress

The WFNMB organizes the WFNMB Congress, the third largest nuclear medicine meeting world wide. The last WFNMB Congress was held in Seoul, South Korea, in 2006 and received more than 2500 attendees.

The next WFNMB Congress will be held in Cape Town, South Africa, from 18-23 September 2010, together with the South African Society of Nuclear Medicine Congress. The venue for the Congress is the state-of-the-art Cape Town International Convention Centre (www.cticc.co.za). The organizing of the 2010 Congress is well underway. All the Local Organising Committee (LOC) sub-committees that have been created will have a chair person who will report to the Congress Chairperson who will in return report to the Exco.
